Egypt Frontline Prayer — Therefore Pray to the Lord of the Harvest

When people think of Egypt, they often think of the pyramids, the Nile River, and its ancient civilization.

Yet on this historic land, many people still have not truly heard or understood the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today, let us learn more about Egypt, its people, its religious background, and its need for the Gospel, while praying for local churches and unreached peoples.

Egypt is located in northeastern Africa and serves as an important bridge between Africa and the Middle East. It is also a major cultural and religious center in the Arab world.

The population is approximately 118 million people, and about 90% of Egyptians are Muslims, most of whom follow Sunni Islam.

For many Egyptians, faith is not only a personal belief. It is closely connected to family, culture, community, and identity. Because of this, Muslims who choose to follow Christ often face pressure from family members and society.

Egypt is also home to one of the largest Christian populations in the Middle East. Many Christians belong to the historic Coptic Church, whose roots trace back to the time of the apostles.

However, some Christians still face discrimination, unequal opportunities in education and employment, and restrictions related to church construction and ministry activities.

According to Joshua Project, Egypt has approximately 46 people groups, of which 33 are classified as Unreached People Groups (UPGs). About 90% of the population belongs to these unreached groups.

The largest people group is the Egyptian Arabs, who make up more than 90% of the population.

Other minority groups include:

Nubians

The Nubians live mainly in southern Egypt and northern Sudan along the Nile River. They are an ancient people with their own language and cultural traditions. Most Nubians are Muslim, although there are also small Christian communities among them.

Bedouins

The word “Bedouin” means “desert dweller.” They are traditionally nomadic Arab tribes who live mainly in the Sinai Peninsula and desert regions. Family, tribal identity, and honor are central to Bedouin culture. Most Bedouins follow Sunni Islam. Because many communities live in remote areas, access to the Gospel and Christian resources remains limited.

Berbers

The Berbers are among the oldest peoples of North Africa. In Egypt, they are a small minority living mainly around the Siwa Oasis in the Western Desert. They have preserved their own language and cultural heritage and are predominantly Muslim. Due to their remote location, access to Gospel resources is often limited.

Although most people are classified as Egyptian Arabs, different ethnic groups and regions maintain unique cultures and traditions. Some minority peoples, desert tribes, and border communities still have limited access to the Gospel and need continued prayer and cross-cultural ministry efforts.

🙏 Prayer Requests

  • Pray for Egypt’s 33 unreached people groups and ask God to raise up and send more workers among them.
  • Pray for believers from Muslim backgrounds, that they will remain strong in their faith despite family and social pressures.
  • Pray for local churches, that God will give them wisdom, courage, and unity as they serve as salt and light in their communities.
  • Pray that the Gospel will spread through discipleship, children’s ministries, media outreach, and other ministry opportunities.
  • Pray for the Nubians, Bedouins, Berbers, and other peoples with limited access to the Gospel, that they may have the opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ.

📖 Scripture

“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
— Matthew 9:37–38 (NIV)

Today, let us respond to the Lord’s call by praying for Egypt. May the Lord of the harvest raise up and send more workers into the unreached peoples, so that many more may hear the Gospel and come to know Christ.

🙏 Missions begin with prayer.
