Join Us in Praying for Burkina Faso
Today, we invite you to learn more about Burkina Faso and pray for the people of this nation.
Burkina Faso is located in West Africa, near the southern edge of the Sahara Desert.
In recent years, the spread of Islamic extremist groups has made Burkina Faso one of the most difficult places for Christians.
In some areas, many churches have been forced to close or have been attacked.
Pastors and Christian families have had to flee their homes, and in certain places, believers have not been able to gather publicly for years.
Burkina Faso has more than 80 ethnic groups, including:
- Mossi — the largest ethnic group in the country
- Fulani / Fulbe — one of the major Muslim peoples in West Africa
- Bobo, Gurma, Lobi, and many others
There are still many UUPGs (Unreached and Unengaged People Groups) in Burkina Faso, and millions of people still have little or no access to the Gospel.
Among them, the Fulani people are considered one of the most difficult groups to reach with the Gospel in West Africa.
Besides Islam and Christianity, traditional African religions and ancestor worship are still very common in many villages and ethnic communities.
Some people may call themselves Muslims or Christians, but they still believe in ancestor spirits, witchcraft, traditional priests, and charms for protection.
Because of this, Gospel ministry in Burkina Faso is not only about changing religion.
It is also about the transformation of people’s hearts and lives.
In some areas, pastors’ villages have been attacked, homes have been burned, and families have been forced to flee.
Some pastors have even become refugees themselves.
But many of them have not given up.
They continue to care for believers, visit churches, and encourage local Christians.
In many remote and dangerous areas, the people who can continue serving are often local workers and M2M missionaries who understand the language, culture, and daily life of the people.
🙏 Prayer Requests
- Pray that the churches in Burkina Faso will remain strong during persecution.
- Pray for comfort and hope for families who have lost their homes and loved ones.
- Pray for unreached peoples such as the Fulani, that God will open doors for the Gospel.
- Pray that God will raise up more M2M missionaries and local workers for the harvest field.
- Pray for peace in Burkina Faso and for an end to violence and terrorist attacks.
May the light of the Lord shine into the darkness and pain of Burkina Faso. ✨
