On August 10, a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, with its epicenter near San José del Palmar in Chocó Department. It is the strongest earthquake to hit Colombia this century. At least 111 people have died and 87 have been injured. More than 1,600 buildings were damaged, including 61 that collapsed. People remain trapped beneath the rubble in several areas, and the government has declared a state of emergency.
Please pray for the earthquake-affected communities in Colombia. Pray that the Lord would have mercy, protect lives, rescue those trapped beneath the rubble, and guide the rescue efforts. Pray also that God would comfort those who have lost loved ones, homes, and hope, and that they would experience His presence and strength in the midst of their suffering.
